May 2012: E-M5 for $830

I do believe that the introduction of the E-M10 signals a more rational awareness on the part of Olympus of the value of the product line relative to other brands of Mirrorless system cameras and DSLRs. Really, among their recent products only the E-M1 has enough pro-level flagship features to sustain premium pricing compared to competition. The E-P5 has been over-priced from day 1, and the E-PL5 and E-PM2 are mature.

Fuji has just gotten more aggressive with pricing, and Sony A7 is pushing downward from above. The fact is, the pricing of these Olympus bodies had to adjust to these realities, and the OM-D E-M10 reflects that understanding.

Sounds good.  I don't have anything against lower prices.

I bought my E-M5 in May 2012 for $999, but there was the Olympus promotion back then so I got a free FL-300R flash which was selling for $179 at the time.  I sort of got my E-M5 for $830 so that was a pretty good deal, even now, I think.  Without the free flash though I would have gotten the E-M5 anyway, but the free flash made the price more palatable and I knew it would mean that I wouldn't care much when the price of the E-M5 body dropped in price.  Surprisingly, the price has declined very gradually over the last couple of years though.
