So just how "bad" is the XE-1 with updated firmware?

Even though it's a 1-½ year old camera, it's been getting firmware updates quite frequently (unlike what many of camera brands do).  I recognize that it has the previous generation sensor compared to the X-E2, and will not have the AF tracking that the X-T1 will have, but for $800 body and lens combo, it seems like a super deal!

Can anyone comment on how the X-E1 with updated firmware compares to the X-E2?  I want to get into the X system, and was planning on jumping on the X-T1 when it is released.  However, I am now reconsidering and contemplating picking up an X-E1 body and 18-55 lens combo (as well as a couple of additional lenses next week) and shooting for a while before I plunk down another $1300 for the X-T1.  Thoughts?  Thanks!
