A lovely natural smile. I believe that this photograph would benefit from an enrichment and expansion of grey tones. As it is, this photo looks too flat for my eye.

do you have any suggestions? I'm trying but not always as easy to make the photos pop or whatever adjective people prefer, especially not since mot of my travels hings are JPEG :/

This is just a quick contrast adjustment. For the best results one ought to work on RAW file or at lest colour JPG.

Try to shoot RAW or JPG + RAW. The memory is cheap. It would be regrettable to compromise the quality of the unique photographs from your trips.
