I have spent the last few weeks reading various reviews with regards to buying a new monitor.  I know a lot more than I did a month ago but still have some questions I would be grateful if anyone could help me with:

(i) Is 1920 x 1200 better than 1920 x 1080 for photo editing?  (I understand nothing about this so apologies if this is a dumb question)

(ii) Related to the above, does the screen size of the monitor make any difference to this?  I have been looking at 24" IPS monitors

(iii) Top of my current shortlist is a Dell Ultrasharp U2412M - any opinions gratefully received

(iv) Should it be a concern that the above monitor does not have a HDMI socket?  I would be using the new monitor as an external screen for my laptop.  My laptop has both VGA and HDMI sockets.  Do you get better picture quality through connecting via HDMI, rather than VGA?

(v) I have read quite a few negative reports about Dell monitors.  Any comments?

(vi) Any other recommendations on monitors in the same price range as the Dell?

A bit more information about me (incase it helps) I am an amateur who will never be looking to do anything more professional photo-wise, so am trying to balance my need for accurate colour rendition on screen to a fairly tight budget!  I use a Nikon D7100, Lightroom 5, and own a X-Rite Color Munki Display for calibration.

Many thanks
