You may be, but most folks if offered the option of better quality will take it, regardless of whether they need or can take advantage of it.

As to only wanting 6MP, perhaps Olympus (or Adobe) can be persuaded to implement pixel binning.  I'd certainly appreciate such a mode.  A 24MP camera using 4:1 binning would give 6MP very naturally.
