Recently I spent 3 weeks traveling with my family in Laos. With this short series of photographs I wanted to show an industrial operation, i.e. evaporative salt production as practised over there. It is always interesting to see how simple such an operation can be.

NEX 5N with SEL 18200

Hot water is pumped into the ground to dissolve the rock salt

the dissolved brine is pumped into heated trays

resulting salt is scooped into baskets

Full baskets are "transported" to the drying room

in the drying room the final dewatering takes place

In modern installations, which I sell, this step is done in efficient fluid bed dryers.
