Right. You're simply locking the EV. I would love to have that ability on the Nikon cameras.

In a sense, all the auto exposure modes do that. In A you turn the front ring and it simultaneously changes aperture and shutter speed. In S and P you would turn the back wheel. Downside is you have to use EC to alter exposure from what the meter dictates.

I agree.  It's just strange that the ability exists in the auto modes but not in M!
