If you are following the camera meter's recommendation based on the meter reading after EC was set, what's the advantage was my question? I can also decide the combination in A mode or even in P mode with P-shift.

I know some people just -like- using M mode and that's fine. I just find it odd when they assume people who don't use M mode are letting the camera make all the decisions and/or must be clueless. There is a huge difference between using A or in the case of the higher end models, using P mode intelligently and setting a camera on the green square mode where you have no control.
