It can't be a fake housing, or housing a fake pentaprism, there's a real viewfinder in there. If you mean it's a housing made to look angular like a manual focus SLR, fine. But pentaprism housings are not angular on all SLRs either, and if you have a housing at all it's going to have some kind of shape and it may as well match the design of the rest of the camera.

Actually, yes, it IS a fake rangefinder since THEY use prisms as well as using simple geometry to find the distance when focusing.


If you want to define cameras in terms of other cameras...
That makes an AF (D)SLR design a fake rangefinder too.

Modern (D)SLRs use some fancy beam splitter phase detection system to emulate a simple(?) mechanical coincidence rangefinder. (it was a bit before my time, but I believe older AF may have been CD?)
Or for that matter a DLSR with Live View is a fake CSC/Mirrorless.
All of the disadvantages of a mirrorless with none of the advantage.
