You are probably correct on that.

To the original poster, I have the 28-105 f3.5-4.5 II USM lens and use it on my 5D (the first 5D).  While I think it's a little soft for sweeping landscapes, it is a superb portrait lens.  Used ones in excellent condition can be had for about $250.  Also, if you are looking for a Canon hood for that lens, it uses the same hood as the Canon 28mm f1.8 USM lens.
