Aperture for K5 using Sv mode and 60 - 250mm +/- teleconverter

Hi all,

here's a question for the more technical.

Does anyone know what governs the setting of the aperture in this mode? The manual says that "the shutter speed and aperture value are automatically set according to the selected sensitivity to obtain a proper exposure".

In practice, today this means the aperture was set at f 5.6, using the lens alone. With the 1.7x AFA teleconverter it set itself to f10. I don't always find f10 so useful, especially in this dim northern hemisphere light.

Would it be fair to assume this is based on the MTF of the lens (I use the MTF line setting elsewhere).

Insight appreciated.
