I found a review of the Shoot intervalometer I use at http://www.davidkennardphotography.com/blog/795-shoot-rs-80n3-intervalometer-remote-shutter-release-cable-review.xhtml. This talks about the size and shows it in comparison to cameras. Yes, it's about 6 inches long. You can find plenty of similar devices selling on eBay and elsewhere for $20 or so. You may also find the Canon model for well over $100. For my occasional use, the cheap one is fine. I suspect all the different brands come off of a single assembly line somewhere. You just have to make sure to find one with the right connector (the one in the link above would not fit my G1X).

You can also try installing CHDK firmware. It has an intervalometer function. I've tried to use it but am too impatient to figure out how to set it up, but at least it's an option depending on your camera.

Thanks Dan,

Yes the intervalometer is to big to take along, i try and go minimalist (im a rover, not a sitter;)

I had no idea such a thing as CHDK existed, just had a good look over it. Impressive.

I can live with the wink/blink feature taking 10 shots at once, i just need to find out now if the G12 has that feature, and more importantly the focus tracking and exposure adjustment during timer mode.

Cheers

Dave
