Well that covers all the possible user issues of course.
So I so seldom have that display on I honestly didn't even notice.. but my Yongnuo which works fine doesn't have the icon either. I think the Samsung flashes have a sensor connector. I end up using my flashes manually. usually more as manual strobes then anything.
As has been mentioned the flash may not be hitting the connector, the flash may not be compatible (either due to voltage or what have you)
Beyond that I don't think I can give much more help sadly.
The trigger shouldn't have an issue. I use the Cactus V5, Yongnuo triggers and even a pocket wizard without issue. Though I've not used Cowboy Studio triggers so I can't say 100%
Wish I could be of more help..

I've had no issue with Yongnuo Flash and triggers, or Cactus triggers. I can't comment on the others.
But I'll do the basic set of questions.
what mode was the flash in? (most any but TTL the NX20 will only recognize TTL on Samsung Flashes that support it right now)
In the picture below it isn't in TTL mode, but I have tried switching it to that mode before, and still no luck.
What mode was the camera in? (Manual)
I've tried it in Apeture Priority mode, and Manual.
Was the camera at 1/160 of a second shutter or slower?
Yup.
Was the trigger tested with the Samsung flash?
I didn't want to try the trigger with the samsung flash until i figured out whether or not it worked. I got the Vivitar flash at an antique shop along with a Nikon SLR camera.
Have you replaced the batteries in both?
The flash has a fresh set of batteries, and I replaced the battery in the trigger too for good measure.
What do you mean by the display doesn't show the flash is connected? When I connect a Flash or a Trigger to the NX20 I have never (that I know of) seen and on screen indicators...
See the pic below:
Figured get the basic "troubleshooting" questions out of the way.

In this pic, the camera is set to Apeture priority mode. I used the magic of MS Paint to draw a red rectangle around the "No Flash" indicator. SInce the camera doesn't recognize that the flash is attached, I can't access the Flash menu (to change it from Fill, 2nd curtain, etc.).
As for the Samsung flash, it still works fine. As soon as I attach it to the camera, the Flash icon changes to show that flash is enabled, I can change the flash from Fill to Red eye reduction, 2nd Curtain, etc.
I took a multimeter to the wireless trigger to see if it was a crappy connection from the hotshoe connector to the circuit board, and from what i tested it seemed ok, though it was kinda haphazard since I only have a basic understanding of electronics. I was just testing the resistance between two connection points.
I'm posting this from work right now, so I may have missed some questions, but I'll come back to this once I have more time. Thanks for your input so far everyone, it is appreciated.
