Great! We don't really need auto-focus, or even digital, for that matter.

We can save a lot of money going manual-focus, film-only Canon F1 (say) with the 70-200/4, say, if only-ever sometimes AF is the practical choice. Luckily we are all talented nailing manual focus on fast-moving subjects.

Someone here sounds a little bitter.  Of course all the modern conveniences are nice, but many of use don't need them and are willing to deal with the tradeoffs.  We're paying much less money for this system, if you want to go buy expensive gear as your way of dealing with getting focus, then do it instead of wasting your time criticising manual focus.  In this forum we've already chatted extensively about focus, the reality is that we don't have perfect AF and manual is a way to overcome some of the shortcomings of the AF.

And, provided we only take 36 exposures at a time, of course, with no preview.

Ah, the 70s-80s. Good times, great times.

For me nx300 isn't the best camera for sports, not because of the slower focusing speed but for the lens selection. I have taken a few sports pictures(ice hockey and floorball ) with manual focus without problems. There is lots of great sport pictures from the era before af.

for sports i would probably go for the 85mm 1.4 for some more tele, but i would prefer a 50-135 2.8 zoom(which i hope is coming)
