I just did some tests with my S120 in regards to one other topic, and discovered that "Smart Shutter" mode - specifically wink self-timer and face self-timer actually doreevaluate focus/exposure before taking the shot (and wink self-timer even has a continuous focus/exposure tracking while the timer is counting down)
Here`s the post I wrote here:

I have to correct myself a bit - I`ve just tested my S120, and the last two "Smart Shutter" options (wink self-timer and face self-timer) seem not to lock the focus/exposure on full shutter button press
Actually, once the shutter button is fully pressed and wink self-timer is activated, the camera continues to track focus/exposure as it changes (I was moving my hand towards and away from the lens, and focus was following it). Once the picture is taken, the focus was correct (different from it was upon shutter button full press).
On the other hand, face self-timer seems not to continuously track the focus/exposure - while I was moving my hand nothing changed (both focus and exposure seemed lock to what they were in the moment of shutter button full press). But, when the time to take a picture came, camera did reevaluate the new scene conditions, and a picture was taken with correct focus/exposure (different than what was locked after the shutter button full press).
I must say that I`m really positively surprised with this behavior, and glad that I`m now aware of it
While regular self-timer keeps the focus/exposure locked once the button is fully pressed and until the picture is taken, both wink and face self-timer will eventually take a shot approximately 15 seconds after the shutter button was fully pressed and if no wink/face was detected during that period - thus being an alternative 15 sec self-timer where focus/exposure is recalculated before taking the shot.
I am happy
