Not really hidden ... if there are two halves stored, then the converter follows the dynamic range setting to choose its algorithm ... 100 is binning if M size was shot and create a large image if not, dr200 is hardware blend if M size and software hack if not, and DR400 is the same as DR200 with different curves ...

There are probably other cues that can be used to get even closer in RAW ...

I'm not sure how more info would help ... although one supposes that special fields to signal "intent" couldn't hurt ...
