If you're anything other than an exclusively landscape photographer, do you find the extra megapixels a blessing or a curse? Is the camera versatile enough to take good family photos (I have a very mobile 3yr old at home!) as well as portraits, sports etc?

If you had the choice again, would you still choose D800 over the D610?

Thanks for any thoughts!

I find the 51-pt AF system in my D800 much less adept at focus tracking than the system in my D3, D300 and D700, which were nearly foolproof. The D800 seems to miss a lot. Maybe more processing power is given handling the much larger files rather than controlling the AF? Or maybe my D800 could benefit from a checkup–which I am in fact packing it up for rehab at Nikon after nearly a year of continuous, hard usage.

Unless I couldn't afford it, no way would I choose a D610 over a D800. I love the extra detail. Then again, I would shoot medium format digital, max resolution always if I could. After all, I can always downsample for subjects that don't require all that resolution, but I can never get more than provided by my original capture.
