Ultra Wide Lenes - EF-S 10-22 or EF 17-40 on 70D

Many here rave about the 10-22 crop lens, but how does it compare with the full frame 17-40 lens?

Selective specs are:

10-22 = 16-35, f3.5-4.5, 385 gm, 83x90, 77mm filter

17-40 = 17-40, f4 “L” , 500 gm, 83x97, 77mm filter

They are much the same in physical size and they cover much the same wide angles. The 17-40 is an L series lens with constant max aperture and it could be used on a full frame camera if ever I go that direction.

Has anyone owned both these lenses and could comment on their comparative merits when used on a crop camera such as the 70D?
