Super-X speculation.

With Hasselblad and PhaseOne announcing they are going to use the new Sony 44x33mm CMOS sensor I think Fujifilm now have a viable route into a larger format.

50Mp and native ISO up to 6400.

Sony will happily sell the sensor to Fujifilm too, and they could even add an X-trans CFA overlay if they still feel the technology beats Bayer on a like for like basis.

Of course Fujifilm already have a substantial portion of the medium-format market because they make all the Hasselblad MF lenses, so their partner might not be all that keen on competition.

But given what Sony has just done with the A7/R it is absolutely possible to build a relatively compact (no bigger than Canikon FF DSLR body) mirrorless body for this (small) medium format sensor.

Fujifilm could of course dip their toe in the water with a Super-X100 35mm equivalent fixed lens camera. Something like a 50mm f2.8 would be just the thing - still reasonably compact overall and tiny by comparison to current medium format systems.

Please note - this is not even a rumour, it's simply idle speculation on my part. But it would allow them to skip the 24x36 sensor and its PR complications altogether.
