The important non-issue

The issue:

This is an issue that N/C users have denied since the first Sony SLT cameras with first electronic curtain arrived: "My D800 gives perfectly sharp pictures!" etc.

The fact is that shutter vibration affects sharpness also for low Mp sensors at medium to long exposures, typically from 1/250 sec to 1/8 sec). In many such situations a 24 Mp A99 should outresolve the 36 Mp D800, since D800 shutter vibration will wipe out the finest detail.

You could also ask: Why 36 Mp A7r with no electronic first shutter curtain? The obvious answer is that with shutter speeds above or below the problematic range you will capture very fine detail.

Previous test shots (repeated tests show the same result):

So shutter vibration does not matter?
