In my tests it depends on the lens being used.  I have the GX7 and my 35-100 shows sharp and detailed with either shutter.  My 100-300 on the other hand has proven to always be sharper when using the electronic shutter (at least on stationary subjects).  I'm not talking about double images or anything that extreme.  What I am seeing is consistent loss of small details with the mechanical shutter and that lens.  This is very noticeable at 100% viewing and barely at a more reasonable 50%.  Still, loss of detail is loss of detail.   Anyway, that what my testing has shown.
