Good choice. I always consider Sony SLT camera's as good beginner cameras to go out of auto and learn fast what shutterspeed/ISO and Aperture does because of the EVF.

You might think the D5200 is the better sensor, but the D58 has the most forgiving sensor and allows you to recover details in the dark area without banding showing. The D5200 is prone to banding because of the Toshiba sensor.
Considering you're a beginner I think it's a good choice. 
P.s. Was a long time sonyshooter A77/A99 but recently switched to Nikon...
