Yes it's a matter of personal choice.. some like a plain screen.. no clutter.. other like the split prism for focusing.

The Camera of using just means the camera model using that particular screen..

matte:. You need something to focus the lens image onto.. (you can't do that with clear glass) the matte is the 'kind' of method used to make the screen a matte finish to enable the image to display on. Laser/hexagon/precision etc
