I just don’t understand all the fuss about the sigma lens. If you need a wide zoom with speed then obviously f1.8 is ahead of the game but on any other criteria the sigma looks average to me. You only have to look at the example shots in DPR’s review to see that the only the centre of the images are sharp. At 18-35mm it is not unreasonable for some to comment on its suitability for landscapes but they clearly haven’t analysed the sample photos.

IMG_9525-acr is a photo of a building at f5.6, which looks like it was taken with a phone. The school grounds and the shots of the Thames are not much better, although the Thames shots were taken at f4 for some unknown reason. There are test shots at at f6.5-f9 which show the same soft edges. I think a lot of people are just towing the line rather than critically judging the lens.
