also, if instead of a zoom it has to be one prime wider than 50mm, I would go for the EF 28mm f/2.8 IS. In my experience shooting the Tokina I tend to gravitate to the 16-21 mm range and 28mm (and narrower if I only could). Maybe because I previously used the combo EF 28mm f/2.8 + Sigma 20mm f/1.8 EX. The difference between 28mm and 24mm is similar to just one step forward or backward if the subject is not too far away. On the other hand 24mm should be fine as well because one can always crop as necessary.
