read between the lines....

Sony managed something really, really hard, successfully introducing NEX as new brand in a highly competitive and emerging market, only to kill it four years after its launch. One word: Wow!

Read between the lines of what Mark Weir was assumably forced to give as a statement on corporate orders, and it boils down to something that reflects the ongoing restructuring and internal merging challenges and issues in what is "Sony Imaging" or whatever they call it momentarily. Their internal roadmap is full of in-house potholes while the digital still photography market around them is shaking. A bumpy ride - and it shows in this (IMHO wrong) move.

I am all in for maximizing Alpha A - Alpha (F)E migration opportunities. It is just a marketing nightmare to

  • kill a young brand which obviously had positive impact
  • come up with an easy and substantial way of explaining the (claimed) Alpha system interoperability. That Sony reply was NOT a success in that regard.
