There's some weird stuff appearing in my photos

Hi, I'm new here. I recently received a Canon 350D but the CompactFlash card I ordered hasn't arrived yet so I've been messing around with the remote shooting on the EOS Utility.

On some of the pictures that I've taken that have been out of focus, there is this weird stuff that looks like hair on them (see 1st photo). However, if I take a photo that is properly focussed, it disappears (see 2nd photo).

I have 3 lenses: a Canon 28-80mm EF, a Sigma 28-200mm EF and a Sigma 100-300mm EF and the "hair" appears on all of the lenses in a shot that is out of focus. Is this just dust/dirt on the sensor or is it something more serious?

Thanks,

Dan
