Hi, I asked this on an older thread in the beginner section, but I'm worried it might be too old for anyone to see, so I'm reposting this here. I had issues with my Rebel t4i (purchased in June 2013) with blurry pictures, no point of focus and front focusing. I know how to take sharp pictures, and the problem did not originate from lack of experience. I sent 2 lenses back to the Canon Repair center - a 50mm 1.8, the kit lens of 18-135mm along with the T4i. Canon sent me a report saying the lenses both tested out fine, but they needed to replace the PCB circuit board on the body. Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what this is, and how would this get damaged? Is it normal for a 6 month old camera to need that replaced?

pcb  printed circuit board, the electronics board. The just replace the whole thing, because it would be too time consuming to find out what particular component doesn't work right. Usually electronics work, or don't work, but sometimes a trace on a board can have a hairline crack that works intermittently, or a soldering joint can be poor. Now, the AF problem some more like some miscalibrated/misaligned AF sensor. The AF sensor is also an electronic piece that can have defects. So, all in all, they probably just replace the whole stuff without bothering to find out what is wrong, and if everything works, it's fine.

It's unlikely that something got damaged, this is something that slipped through testing, or some manufacturing flaw that was not immediately obvious, as pointed out above.  These things happen with all kinds of electronic equipment
