Yes they did but Leica rangefinder did not "fall."

Leica didn't but essentially everyone else abandoned that market including Canon and Nikon.  Even worse, any new RF ILC entrants in the 60's failed rather spectacularly (e.g. Kodak Signet 80 and Anscomark M/Ricoh 999).

It was just written in support of the opinion that it takes time for one system to supplant another.

But there at least needs to be a clear trend that it's gonna happen.

It 's possible, but it's an argument of faith and "technological inevitability" not supported by sales trends.
