Rear view mirrors don't have 1/4000s actuators or need periodic recalibration.

Look at it another way. Every camera has an LCD screen. It's debatable that an EVF could cost less than a mirror/pentaprism. It's not debatable to say a mirror/pentaprism costs more than nothing. The EVF could  become an add on option as it has for all the low to mid level NEX bodies, eliminating the cost of a viewfinder completely.

I'd rather lose the LCD than the viewfinder. On my EVF camera with tilt swivel LCD I keep the LCD closed and never miss it.
