If you are interested in this approach, make sure that you get the 8mm lens with the removable hood and be aware how difficult it is to frame your target precisely.

In your experience what percentage of the frame gets cropped away?

To make a circular image, you have to crop quite a bit off.  For other purposes perhaps not so much

In the example above you can see that the image fills quite a bit of the frame but to make it circular, it must have the diameter of the height of the image thus losing quite a bit at the sides.
