You may have misunderstood me. I don't have a problem with it, it is also quiet & quick. My remark was about the AI-Servo behaviour which is similar with all lenses. I also tried it on a 10D - same story. Not a problem though - just don't use AI Servo for stationary subjects when shooting from a tripod.

Could be possibility that since I got it just before the 10D came
out, that it had been corrected already for digital cameras.

I got mine in January this year. Digital cameras were long known by then.

I would suspect that
sending the lens in with the camera makes sure the lens gets some
kind of update at the same time, which is more then just
calibration.

I had sent it in with my 1D once, which needed AF calibration, for reference. CPS never touched the lens.
