How to deal with purple / green blotching?

Hi Everyone:

I noticed that many of the images I took of Havana's architecture about 3 years ago with an SD14 and 17-70mm lens, show purple-green blotching in the shadows. The streets were very narrow so there is a huge contrast between the sunlit and street level part of the images. Some of these images are quite lovely. Now that I am printing these images I can't help but see these blotches more explicitly. It seems like the only option I have is to convert these images to B&W, but it would be a shame, as Havana is a beautifully colorful city. How have people dealt with this type of issue? I am not sure if the SD1 also has this problem.

Thanks,

-Charles
