I think the point of the original post has do to with new lenses from Sigma and Tamron. Sure there are plenty of available Pentax mount lenses in the marketplace used and new out there. But the thing to watch is when Sigma and Tamron come out with a newly designed lens are they making it available in the K-mount?

For example the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 and the 90mm f/2.8 macro. Not available in K-mount. Also I believe the 24-70mm f/2.8 is not available in K-mount but it's a full frame lens.

Not a positive sign to be sure.

Ehm... that's because Pentax will have its own 70-200mm f2.8? Saw this today:

http://photorumors.com/2012/10/04/pentax-patent-for-a-70-200mm-f2-8-lens/

"Pentax filed a patent 2012-189817 in Japan for a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens:

  • Patent filing date: October 3, 2010
  • Zoom ratio: 2.82
  • Aperture: 2.9 - 3.0
  • Focal length: 70.21 - 198.32mm
  • Image height: 21.64mm
  • Lens length: 296.16mm
  • 17 images lens group configuration 14
  • 4 ED elements
  • 2 low-dispersion elements
  • Internal zoom and f focusing

Well here we are January 2014 and still no Pentax 70-200mm f/2.8.

Was there a deadline? The year barely started, and none of the two fairs where Ricoh/Pentax would announce important products happened yet. The first one is in February, by the way.

They have some new-ish Limited lenses, a Limited zoom and a new K-3 camera (not FF) but nothing on the fast zoom front. Pentax is just not about speed when it comes to zoom lenses for some reason.

We'll see about that.

The DA*16-50mm f/2.8 is their only truly fast zoom as I recall.

The DA* 50-135 is a constant f/2.8 as well.

Alex

Ahh yes, forgot about that one. OK that's two.
