Right now it's the only solution. Maybe someday a camera could be made with a ground glass attached beside the sensor that slides horizontally after viewing, positioning the sensor in the film plane for taking the shot. The view finder would have to be positioned directly in line with the lens.

But you would still have a moving part; in principle this isn't any better than a moving mirror.

Or maybe something similar could be developed or maybe never. In my opinion the mirror is going to be around for a long long time for those who want to view their subject thru the lens.

Agreed.  EVF is going to have to match an optical VF before mirror DSLRs go away.
