I promise, I'll post some from Antarctica. I'm praying for good weather.

I really do think you can make a strong case that a number of older cameras are still capable of excellent pictures, as compared to the latest and greatest. The only caveat being you can't make 24 x 36 prints from a 7 MP sensor. But print at 8.5" x 11", or 11" x 14", and the older cameras hold up really well.

My candidates: A710/720IS, A590IS, Pro 1, 30D, A600 series (all of them), Panasonic LC1, FZ50, Olympus C8080. There, that's good for starters. I'm sure there are many more; but please limit replies to models from 2009 or before.

Another older model that holds a special place for me is the old Elph SD400. It was my first truly small camera so it traveled everywhere with me, built like a fine piece of jewelry, and took some really nice images for what it was. I printed many great looking 8x10s with it.

Jumping across brand lines, I'll always love my old Fuji F10. It was big and clunky, sort of ugly, and a little slow, but WOW, what results. A sharp lens, great Fuji colors and a sensor a few years ahead of its time produced some of the best 6mp results I've ever seen. That, and the battery seemed to run forever. Probably my all time favorite purchase in digital.
