Yes, this is the safest way to connect the camera's memory card to the PC.

It would also be the slowest way, if it weren't for WiFi. Also it requires a USB cable and there seem to be at least three different sizes of undersized USB connectors, so I never know which cable to use.

I always treat removing the and inserting the camera's memory card into another device and mainipulating (ovewrite operations) the files there as a dicey practice.I always stick religiously to this rule of never overwriting the files on another device.

The $14 for a PC Card with SD reader in my laptop was the best $14 I ever spent.

If you are worried about overwriting, you can toggle the read-only switch on your SD card.
