legacy lenses

I have been trying out existing old (fully coated) lenses from my film days (cost: zip) and have had mixed results on my Canon 6D. My family discarded old film equipment in my direction, and I had a set of my own film equipment already (M42 mount Mamiya-Sekor). Yes, the contrast and flare are worse for very fast primes of old vintage. On the other hand, sharpness can be very good, and contrast can excel when stopped down 1 to 3 stops. Color rendition is very good. I am keeping the Mamiya-Sekor 60mm f/2.8 preset macro and Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AIS in my repertory. I am working on testing a group of 105 to 135mm lenses, two Nikkor AISs and a Yashinon M42. I might not have bothered if I had a full set of FF EF mount lenses, but I like manual focus, and the manual focus manual aperture lenses are just sitting there occupying space. For whatever reason, I didn't inherit the film Nikon body, but if I ever want to do film again, my trusty M-S still works.

Film students really like manual focus manual aperture lenses, and often remove the bearings that give the aperture ring click stops.
