Wood Ducks
1

I hope you all don't get tired of seeing my pictures of wood ducks, but this past Sunday I was able to get closer than I had ever before. Also, I had some other interesting ones with ice. The lighting was challenging. There were areas with sunlight and other areas with shadows from the branches of trees that surrounded this pond.

Photo No. 1 - When I first got to the water's edge I noticed some ice had formed. This forced some of the wood ducks to swim closer to me. The ice can be seen at the top.

Photo No. 2 - After a while, they got more brave and swam even closer.

Photo No. 3 - I was astonished when some of the male wood ducks swam right past me, as seen in this picture.

Photo No. 4 - The lighting changed a lot, so I got a variety of different types of pictures.

Photo No. 5 - And another one....

Photo No. 6 - Here's the less colorful female wood duck.

Photo No. 7 - A few times the wood ducks walked on the ice. I cropped this to about 6 megapixels before resizing, so that I could get close.

Photo No. 8 - Here's another one showing two of them swimming by the ice. To keep two ducks in focus (like this one), I often focused in between them (with the center point autofocus).

Photo No. 9 - I cropped this significantly, so that I could show one with the beaks open near the ice.

Photo No. 10 - And finally the last one, which shows the size of a female wood duck compared to a female mallard duck. I hope you liked the series.
