Same problem as the SX280, here is the link to the canon forums, there is 86 pages of angry people.

It is interestiing that this problem appears to be in all the new models using the DIGIC 6 processing chipset. For canon to release another camera with the same problem, after what has been a disaster with the SX280 is pure incompetance, you have to wonder what has happened to a once great company.

Please note that he doesn`t have the problem with shooting video (only), but operating the camera at all, that seems to be pretty different (worse). Generalizing and making assumptions like this doesn`t help anyone.

I was afraid that there was some DIGIC 6 video related issue, too, but the test I did reassured me, there is nothing wrong with it -, my S120 seems to work as expected (it took almost half an hour of video recording for the low battery indicator to appear, while it took ~54 minutes of video in total before it turned off for the first time, which would allow for a few more minutes to reach the user guide specified 1h mark).

Here is my problem, battery issues with my new Canon S120, it appears I am not alone. See video:

From what you described, even not using video recording at all but simply operating the camera, it seems as a malfunctioning device to me (either camera orbattery), my S120 doesn`t behave like that. The only problem I have with mine is if I forget to recharge it for a week or few, while I do use it constantly
