Not much difference, it looks like smart auto is doing a very good job.  If you check the ISO used on each photo you can see how much the Icontrast lifted each one above the default (probably 100), the more it is lifted the more the Icontrast AUTO applied DR enhancement.  I am very impressed with the way the Smart AUTO mode protected the highlights and brought out the shadows automatically.  That is what I use P mode settings for, but I find on the SX260 that AUTO is a little bit overexposed.

To be shure you could compare the two modes on scenes that have very high dynamic range.
