Recently tried taking photos of some Christmas light displays with my a620, handheld, forget about it, at ISO 400 it was a sea of noise, whereas my 330HS could do a handheld shot at ISO 800 and look much better.

A year ago after I got my G15, I used my a620 one day indoor in a lowish light place and got blurry photos maxing out at ISO 400.  Then used the G15 inside a similarly lit restaurant and have never used the a620 since.  For all those that think the a620 is still a stellar camera that "can't be beat" are just trying to fool themselves.  The G15/16 is simply awesome.

I do like the flexibility of AA batteries and manual control (PASM) as well as the tube adapters of the old A series units,

AA batteries add bulk (if 4 are used) as well as weight.  Canon has also had issues with cameras having AA batteries as far as getting all the power out and prematurely saying "change the batteries".  If they can make the battery they can control the power compatibility better than having dozens of different types of AA used in their unit just like Windows having so many printers, video cards, etc. plugged into them.
