Why is the A7 selling cheaper than the A99 ?

A7 should be selling cheaper.

Read the DXO Mark descriptions as to how noticeable those IQ parameter differences between the A7 and A99 are, and they aren't really significant (but yes, it would be nice to have the best).

So, when you want to get that nice image quality on a long lens, unless it's a really sunny day, you have to put your A7 on a tripod.

I can see that the A7 would be great for some uses, but for my typical uses I'd have a hard time justifying paying a $1000 for it - especially given the extra money I'd then have to fork out for new lenses ( I have plenty of tripods).

The A99 is a far more capable camera, designed to take a bit of punishment. That's what you're paying for.
Similarly, if you compare the DXOMark IQ scores for the cheap A3000 against the more expensive and more capable A58, you'd conclude that the A3000 is the better camera.
