50/1.8 same thing

I ahve noticed the same thing on my 50/1.8. Also, the "hunting" in AI Server did not occur (or was much less noticable) on the 70-200/2.8 I rented.

BTW: My 50/1.8 is dead on the spot focus in either one shot or ai servo.

3. All this returns us to those reports about Canon technicians
saying that some [older] lenses need adjustment for 1.6x crop (or
small pixels, whatever). I wonder if 50/1.4 needs this adjustment.
When I set 10D to AI Servo with 50/1.4, it constantly moves (with a
constant loud noise), with rather large magnitude, which suggests
50/1.4 has too coarse a focusing (at least, per its chip code as it
is) for 10D. Doesn't happen with e.g. 70-200IS. Has anyone noticed
this with 50/1.4? Has anyone improved 50/1.4 by sending it to Canon
with 10D?

My 50/1.4 behaves exactly like yours. I noticed it especially today
when doing my Fifties Shootout [

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=5280691 ] -- from 1.4 to 2 or so, it was really tricky to get the damn thing to focus: I shot several frames, and the focus position was distinctly different on each.

The lens did have a minor rear-focusing problem (consistent, this
time) that Canon service successfully adjusted, but they didn't or
couldn't do anything about this "slop," more's the pity.
