Its the hold position...you can hold a half pint of beer in that position and if you don't do it a lot you will get tired.

I have a nephew who has a 5DMKIII and does Indie film and Video work with it.

He has a mount for hit.

There are lots of options for when you want to do extended video.

I often use a monopod.. I have one that has a grip "trigger" for fast extension retraction.
