Tamron 70-300 or Canon 70-200?

I currently have the Canon 70-200 f4 IS USM lens, and it is a good provider.  But I've been thinking that the newest Tamron 70-300 Di VR etc. might give me a more practical range.  I know that I could get a TC for the Canon.  But the idea of switching it on and off the camera/lens is a real turn off.

So I ask, will I be terribly disappointed by the results from the Tamron tele over that of the Canon?  I have heard many good things about this newest Tamron zoom.  Even that the Tamron is as good or even slightly better than the Canon 70-300 IS USM (non-L) which I had (and liked) prior to getting the 70-200.  But are those things good enough?  I wouldn't use both.  So it would be one or the other on my T2i.

Thanks for your comments.
