Why hasn't anyone made a modular camera?

Someone else brought this up in a previous post and I thought it was a great idea. But with almost everything today, you can customize it to your liking. Cars are a good example of this; the Mustang is available in 10 different models and within these models there is even more room for personalization.

Now, I get it... A camera isn't a car and to have 10 different models of a D800 could be overkill but it's nice that there are 2 version to choose from.

Now lets take it further... Maybe the Df could have been a good camera to experiment on.

1. Choose your sensor - 16mp, 24mp, 36mp

2. Choose AF type - 51pt, 39pt, no AF (Focus Screen)

3. Choose shutter - 4FPS, 6 FPS, 10FPS

4. Choose - Video or No Video

I think you guys get the idea... I think it would be extremely valuable for photographers to have multiple cameras with the exact same controls but just "spec'ed" differently.

Your thoughts?
