100 f2 vs 100mm 2.8 IS Macro for a telephoto lens

I've been planning on getting the 100mm f2 as a fast telephoto. But I will be getting a bit more money then I thought from some things and I could buy a 100mm f2.8 IS Macro if I wanted.

Should I think about getting the Macro instead to use as a telephoto? I need the lens for event photography, not macro. But I might start playing with more macro photography if I have that lens too. What if I got the 100 f2 and added an extender for macro?

Advantages of the Macro:

Can do macro.

"L" lens quality, whatever that means.

Advantages of the 100 f2

Stop faster.

Sharper according to DXO (I'm sure they are both sufficiently sharp).
