G16 and G1X Prices pretty close

The G1X is appearently sharper than G16. Plus, the G1X price has dropped to about $50 more than the G16.

Yes, I agree. Thanks to the G1X being a 2 year old model it's possible to get it at a very good price .... and at a great low price if you go with used. It's at the "great IQ for the price" stage in its life cycle.

To me, the G16 and G1X really are quite different cameras. The G16 is a great high end compact camera, and while larger than some, still clearly "compact" in size, though not pocketable. The G1X is somewhat unique ... it handles quite like a compact camera, but has a large almost APS-C sized sensor. It is a rather large compact camera, and well beyond not pocketable.

Though it has the limitations mentioned by others in this thread, it can offer IQ comparable to cameras in the "compact" but with a larger sensor group and at current prices, it can be a relatively lower cost option within this large sensor "compact" camera group (ie. cameras like the Fuji X100S, Sony RX10, etc.). IMHO, the G1X sits somewhat alone in the product spectrum somewhere between enthusiast compacts like the G16 and this large sensor "compact" camera group. And at current prices, it can be a relatively lower cost option to the other large sensor "compact" cameras.
