Question about on camera flash exposure and a77

Okay, I'm pretty familiar with the a77 and on/off camera flash operation of the f43am.

Yesterday however, I had to shoot an event in which I had the a77 in M mode. I noticed that each time I would set the flash to manual, each time the camera went to sleep, the flash reverted back to auto/ttl.

Which then made me curious to find out why this was happening. I went thru the flash settings in the a77 menu, its set to fill flash. I even tried changing the AEL button to flash exposure compensation, and even with that, it still did the same thing.

Can anyone explain why this is happening? It doesn't happen off camera.

Also if someone can explain to me if there is some type or FEL on the a77?

If I set the the flash to auto/ttl and then change the flash exposure comp in the camera, does it ACTUALLY adjust the flash power?

if this is not normal behaviour, how do I set an on camera flash gun to stop reverting to to auto/ttl when the camera goes into sleep mode?

Sony SLT-A77
